I am not sure if I agree on this with Elon Musk. I think it really depends on the type of work. When working alone on some deep work you do enjoy, I think you can actually be more productive working from home. At least you save time for commuting. However, for team-based work or tasks you don't enjoy, working in person is definitely better.

The type of work does matter, I agree.

And I am a big nonbeliever that people are [necessarily] more productive in person. Some are; some are not. Some jobs require frequent interaction; some do not. Some of us are less productive when we are constantly bothered while trying to get work done.
