The "early bird" mentality sounds plausible. However, there are two types of people:

Owls and larks. While larks have a circadian rhythm that is compatible with waking up early, owls are most productive later in the day and even at night. So "getting up early" can be a good strategy if it is compatible with your circadian rhythm. Otherwise, it's not the best idea.
